Come Stay with Us
It’s official: our guesthouse is now available to rent through Airbnb! Sharing our passion for small-scale farming and regenerative agriculture has always been a key driver in our decisions. We made it a priority to invite college students to tour our operation, share our journey through this blog, and speak at events (both local and online). So inviting people outside our immediate community to experience this beautiful country and see our farm in operation is a natural fit.
We love hosting friends through annual traditions such as Practice Thanksgiving, neighborhood hot cocoa and cookies parties and our new Easter Egg hunt at Sheep Creek Ranch. Building community and engaging with our neighbors is important not just for us, but for our kids as well. We want them to know how to connect well, even though (or particularly because) we homeschool. So this will take it to a new level of engagement with those we may never have met otherwise.
When can you stay?
Now! We have not had the posting up for a week and already booked five separate visits! We’re excited to meet new people, share a glimpse into our farm-life and allow them to experience its beauty for themselves. As we state in our listing, “this is the place for star gazers, outdoor adventurers, garden enthusiasts, and anyone looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle.” And it is so true. We often have to remind ourselves to stop and take the time to participate in some of these activities ourselves!
Is it a full bed and breakfast?
Not right now. We love a gourmet breakfast experience and would want to offer nothing less to our guests. But our current reality with three little kiddos and seemingly endless farm chores does not make that practical. So for now guests will be able to use the full kitchen to cook their own meals. Depending on the time of year, we will offer fresh eggs and/or produce from the gardens to add a little local flavor!
When is the best time to visit?
Really any time of the year holds special treasures. Summer is definitely the most popular season with abundant opportunities for fishing and boating on the Flaming Gorge. Manila is host to several rodeo events during the summer months (which our oldest child desperately wants to participate in if he can just figure out how to get his horse to do the barrel pattern!) and “western” activities like branding days and experiencing life on a working ranch. There is a great running race in August that literally goes in front of our house along the scenic Sheep Creek Geological Loop. And the hiking, biking and fishing right on our property are pretty amazing then too!
Activity slows in the fall, but we still have beautiful days and crisp, cool nights. In September you can watch the Kokanee salmon spawn right here in Sheep Creek. The aspen leaves turn brilliant shades of gold and make the geological loop a special treat.
Winter is unpredictable. We have days with bright blue skies and abundant sunshine, perfect for cross country skiing or snowshoeing. And then some days where it’s best just to cuddle up inside with a good book or a game of Scrabble.
Spring brings with it the promise of new life, but it also brings a lot of mud! While you can still hike and fish, be prepared with a good pair of boots and a rain jacket.
So as you’re planning your travel, book a trip to stay at the farm!
This looks fantastic, Forbes folks! So glad to see all your hard work come to fruition. Good luck with the business.
Thanks Marjorie! It’s fun to see so many different pieces fall into place!
