Do you know your farmer and how your food was grown?
Pasture-raised meat
There is no fresher way to purchase meat than to come to the farm where it is raised. We will accept pre-orders (beginning mid-summer) for pasture-raised pork and chickens until we are sold out. All of our animals are raised out in the sunshine, moving to fresh grass daily. They are never given antibiotics or growth hormones. Most of our animals are heritage breed stock and are allowed to exhibit all the natural traits of their species.
Community Supported Agriculture
We love connecting people in our community with locally grown food. CSA memberships are our primary outlet for selling and distributing the products we produce on our farm. Each week from spring to autumn members receive a harvest of whatever is in season on the farm. See our FAQs below for more information. Registration for our 2024 shares is now sold out, but you are welcome to join the wait-list for next season!
On Farm Events
Our love of farming started with a passion for delicious food. We want to share produce picked at the peak of the season and pasture-raised meat cooked to perfection. Open to members of the Forbes Family Farm Local Food Club only – click here for more information.
Interested in learning new skills and expressing your creativity? Our monthly Paint and Sip classes are led by local artist Shanna Northcott. For more information, click here to register.
CSA Frequently Asked Questions and 2024 Options
Community Supported Agriculture connects members with their local farmer. You purchase a share up front and receive a box of weekly produce delivered to your area or picked up on the farm. It provides you with high quality, fresh, nutritious food grown without pesticides or artificial chemicals. Because the food is all grown on our farm, it allows you to be in tune with eating seasonally based on what is available throughout the summer. It also introduces you to new varieties and gives you ideas of how to use your produce each week. Investing in a CSA also connects you with your local farmer and keeps your food dollars in the local economy. Plus, there are a few special farm events specifically for our CSA community!
The 2024 season will begin the week of May 13th and end the week of October 7th. Each week you will receive a box of vegetables (and a few fruits) from the farm. The exact mix will vary from week to week based on what is available for harvest. While it will fluctuate based on crop cycles and season, our commitment is that throughout the course of the season, we will provide you with produce that matches a volume and quality for the full value of your membership. If we have periods where we have less in-season produce available, we may supplement your box with other items such as eggs, honey, flowers, or jam.
The early weeks of the CSA will feature a variety of greens (lettuce, kale, arugula, spinach), root crops (radishes, carrots, beets, turnips) and peas, Swiss Chard, bok choy, green onions, herbs and garlic scapes. These boxes will be a bit smaller as produce is just coming on here in our high-altitude setting. As we move into the summer, your share will begin to include crops such as green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant, summer squash, garlic and strawberries. By the fall we will also be able to include winter squash, apples, plums, melons, onions, leeks, fennel and potatoes.
While we are not yet certified organic, we apply organic practices in all of our garden operations. So that means we use non-GMO, organic seeds and we never use any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. We’re focused on building the quality of our soil so the plants we produce are incredibly nutrient-dense. Read more about our farming values here.
For 2024 we will have our standard-size share, a small-size share, a family-size share as well as a meat share. For all produce shares we have a bi-weekly option available where you will receive produce every other week. It will be half the price of the normal share.
A standard box of produce will include an average of 8-12 crop varieties each week.
A small box of produce will include most of the same varieties of produce as the standard box, but lesser quantities.
A family box of produce will have less variety each week, but will include a greater quantity of included items (i.e. you may not receive a small bunch of both radishes and carrots, but would have a larger bunch of carrots). This box is intended to make it easier to cook dishes for a larger number of people.
The meat share will include $400 worth of pasture-raised meat products. We will determine the exact mix based on personal preferences, but can include a combination of pork, yak, beef, chicken, duck, and turkey.
You are welcome to purchase the meat share separately or combine it with a produce share.
Both our standard and family shares of produce are $680 (with a 22-week season, this works out to about $30 per week, although it’s all paid up front). A bi-weekly share will be $340.
Our small share of produce is $470 (this option works out to just over $20 per week). A bi-weekly share will be $235.
Our meat share is $400 and includes a variety of pasture-raised meats from our farm (chicken, duck, turkey, pork, yak and beef). The meat share can be added on to either produce share or can be purchased separately. Meat will be available throughout the season as it is harvested.
All CSA membership shares include a $25 CSA set up fee for your produce bags and Forbes Family Farm apparel.
Returning CSA members receive a 10% discount off their produce share.
We accept cash, Venmo, PayPal, check, and credit card. Payments are due at time of membership confirmation. You may pay in-full with one payment or spread the cost over three payments with the full amount due before the season starts in May.
Delivery and pick up logistics will be finalized once our membership base is confirmed, but here are tentative dates and timeframes:

Lonetree/Bridger Valley residents – pick up in Lonetree Thursdays after 2 pm

“As participants in the Forbes Family Farm CSA, my husband and I have enjoyed the wide variety of seasonal, still-warm-from-the-fields vegetables and herbs. No produce from even the fullest supermarket bins tastes fresher or more vibrant than the newly harvested produce that arrives regularly from the Forbes Family Farm! We are always delighted with the fresh offerings and have even expanded our palates as we explore new ways to use the variety of vegetables that appear in our weekly share of produce! “Yum” has never tasted so good.” – Carol W.
“We are so grateful to have access to nutrient dense produce and pasture-raised meats from the Forbes Family Farm. The chicken and pork sustain us through the winter and the seasonal produce is an absolute treat from May through October. Steve and Emily provide a great variety of vegetables, herbs and other farm products throughout the growing season, with just enough of one crop to remind us we are eating fresh, seasonal produce grown around the corner by dear friends. Quality, care and service are unparalleled. THANK YOU Forbes Family Farm!” – Marissa T.
“Being part of the Forbes Family Farm CSA is one of the highlights of our summer. Steve and Emily are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and they work tirelessly to provide some of the best produce and pasture-raised meats that we’ve ever had. We love getting our weekly basket and making delicious meals using whatever is fresh that week. Get to know your farmer, we love ours.” – Dan S.
“It’s easy to understand why eating locally grown produce and meat is a healthier option for all of us. Having food harvested at its peak and delivered within a day or two has so many health benefits, not to mention that it just tastes better. Knowing where and how your food is grown is so important, but equally important is knowing your farmer. Steve and Emily have created a farm that not only feeds and nourishes our bodies, but our minds, too. They are thoughtful in planning what they grow and they are always willing to share their knowledge and experiences with us. I’ve enjoyed talking to Steve about their farming practices and livestock and getting to know the farm. Emily is so passionate about sharing her talents in the kitchen, whether it’s by emailing a recipe for a vegetable in our box or providing a refreshing snack/drink that she has created on a farm work day. We are so thankful that our family is a part of the Forbes Family Farm CSA.” – Courtney T.
“I can’t say enough good things about the Forbes Family Farm. I was a customer with a full share last year and enjoyed every bit. The produce was fresh and varied. The meat was excellent. It is so nice to be able to eat fresh food and know it’s been grown nearby by people we trust. I was also lucky enough to get tickets to the farm to table dinner for my husband and myself – amazing experience!” – Noreena G.
“Last year was our first CSA experience with the Forbes Family Farm and it exceeded all of our expectations! We loved having fresh produce every week to plan for and prepare meals. The weekly recipes they provided were all delicious and helped us discover so many family favorite dishes – can’t wait for the coming year!” – Hillary W.
